New dog-borne corona virus detected
Kuala Lumpur: A new corona virus has been detected in dogs.
According to research published in the Journal of Clinical Infectious Diseases, a new corona virus spread from dogs has been discovered.
Samples of 301 pneumonia patients were obtained from a hospital in Sarawak, Malaysia, of which eight samples confirmed the canine corona virus. Most of them were children under the age of five.
The virus also has a genetically modified ability that was not found in previous canine viruses. This type appeared in 2017 and 2018 in patients with pneumonia treated in the hospital. If confirmed, it would be the eighth type of coronavirus.
Experts say the corona virus could be dangerous to humans. So far, 7 types of corona virus have been identified that can make humans sick. Of these, four cause fever and the common cold, while three can be fatal, including SARS, MERS and COVD 19.
